Intellution integrates Paradym-31 Version 4.0 with FIX.

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 13, 1997--

Version 4.0 of Paradym-31, Intellution's Windows NT-based softlogic controller is now available with "one-step" integration to FIX, the company's technically advanced, easy-to-use industrial automation software. The announcement was made during National Manufacturing Week, March 10-13, McCormick Place Coordinates:

For effective digital control, it is critical that sample time be constant. Real-time control achieves nearly constant sample time. See also

Paradym-31 and FIX are tightly integrated right out of the box. The software's one step integration eliminates the need to re-define tags in FIX, reduces programming errors, and cuts engineering and maintenance time and costs over PLCs as much as 40 percent -- all while providing access to FIX's powerful built-in capabilities, such as integrated graphics Refers to having the video display circuitry of a computer contained directly on the motherboard rather than on a separate plug-in card (the display adapter). Integrated graphics typically share memory with the CPU (see shared video memory) and provide a more economical alternative to the , alarming, trending, networking, and reporting. Paradym-31 is the only soft logic product available that provides hard real-time (deterministic) control capability on Windows NT without the need to run another operating system. At 100 microseconds, its scan frequency is the fastest in the industry.

Two versions of the software-Paradym -- 31 Standard and Paradym-31 Professional -- are available with one step integration to FIX on Windows NT. The software's true client/server architecture enables server and client applications to reside on the same or distributed computers, while their extremely open design allows them to be easily integrated with other applications. Highly scaleable, Paradym-31 is ideal for a wide variety of applications, from single controller to the largest distributed systems. All versions use the same database structure with all I/O (Input/Output) The transfer of data between the CPU and a peripheral device.  capability. Paradym-31 is designed to provide maximum flexibility for OEMs to configure the software to match individual hardware requirements.

"Since we completed the acquisition of Wizdom Controls in late October, we have been very busy integrating Paradym-31 into Intellution's stable of products," said Jim Blaschke, Intellution senior vice president of marketing. "Naturally, the seamless integration into FIX has a lot of leverage for customers because it allows them to easily implement systems without a duplication of effort between programmable controllers and control automation software. And in Paradym-31, we are thrilled to work with such a technically superior product."

"We have seen the industry announce `suites' of products, which are integrated on the price sheet; but Intellution doesn't think that philosophy goes far enough," continued Mr. Blaschke. "The seamless integration of Paradym-31 with FIX is an example of our much more ambitious integration strategy for our customers."

Paradym-31 uses an open-architecture, IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission, Geneva, Switzerland, www.iec.ch) An organization that sets international electrical and electronics standards founded in 1906. It is made up of national committees from over 60 countries.

Programs can be written in any combination of IEC1131-3 languages (Sequential Function Charts, Relay Ladder Logic, Function Block Diagram A function block diagram describes a function between input variables and output variables. A function is described as a set of elementary blocks. Input and output variables are connected to blocks by connection lines. ) and can reside on any number of target platforms, such as dedicated controllers or single-board, in addition to PCs.

"The standard programming environment provided by IEC1131-3 has been an important factor in generating customer interest and adoption of softlogic," notes Christopher Zei, director of marketing, soft logic products.

FIX is the industry's leading distributed, client/serer system for Microsoft-Windows-based platforms. Based on a pure, "peer-to-peer" client-server system, FIX offers full-pre-emptive multitasking multitasking

under Windows, Windows 95 and Windows NT. Multitasking allows operators to perform multiple tasks, such as opening files and printing reports simultaneously, without jeopardizing vital data collection and alarming features. FIX software also allows the sharing of data easily and directly with relational databases.
