Intellicorp announces Windows-based, live modeling tools to accelerate SAP R/3 implementation; SAP implementation teams can be more productive with LiveModel for R/3.

TOKYO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--(Sapphire Japan Conference)--April 25, 1996--IntelliCorp (NASDAQ:INAI) today announced a new generation of Microsoft Windows 95 modeling tools that will accelerate implementation of SAP's R/3 client/server enterprise application system. LiveModel for R/3 uses the R/3 Repository of SAP's Business Engineering Workbench to enable the fast, process-oriented implementation of R/3 by providing SAP R/3 implementation teams with a better way to test and validate their business designs. The result is more efficient business engineering decisions because they are made during the design stage.

LiveModel for R/3 animates the R/3 Reference Model, enabling R/3 implementation teams to walk through a variety of possible business cases. The product simulates R/3 system execution directly from SAP's R/3 Reference Model, so the effects of business engineering decisions can be validated before they are implemented.

LiveModel for R/3 provides multiple views into the R/3 Reference Model, including process, data, organization, function, information and communication views. The models can be modified and saved in IntelliCorp's ModelStore=81 multi-user, shared repository. Annotations can be linked to any object within the model, and reports can be generated.

LiveModel for R/3 provides the facilities and repository for an ongoing business engineering effort, so the models can serve as a basis for life cycle support. R/Viewer, a subset of LiveModel for R/3, is a low-cost client for browsing and comprehending R/3 models.

LiveModel for R/3, R/Viewer and ModelStore are implemented as OLE components on an OLE bus. This architecture allows new components to be added easily to the toolset. Moreover, through OLE-Automation other tools and applications (such as Delphi and Visual Basic for Applications), can query and manipulate models, allowing for example the creation of custom reporting tools.

By being fully compliant with the Microsoft OLE standard, LiveModel for R/3 supports the creation of compound documents. For example, an analyst may drag part of a spreadsheet into a process diagram, to analyze time and cost information related to the process. Notes can be inserted in the form of an embedded word processor document. When the diagram is saved into ModelStore, all related document components are saved with the diagram into the repository which then provides document management for the project team within the context of the business process.

Document embedding can also be used in many other ways. For example, a live model may be embedded in a PowerPoint slide. During a presentation to the project team, changes can be made directly to the embedded model and saved back in the slide for later uploading to the repository.
