Payphones and the Revenue-enhancing 5010 Software for ASTRATEL 2

Intellicall, Inc. (AMEX:ICL) is leading the pack of key manufacturers at the American Public Communications Council (APCC) 2000 Conference and Exhibition with its latest products, including the Millennium Retrofit Kit, ASTRACel Cellular Payphone and the revenue-enhancing 5010 software upgrade for the ASTRATEL(R) 2. The conference and exhibition runs May 17-19 at the MGM Grand Hotel, Las Vegas.

The Millennium Retrofit Kit, a package for the payphone, is a cost-effective replacement kit that provides enhanced functionality with lower ongoing operational costs. Proprietary components are removed and replaced with industry standard parts. No longer will Millennium customers rely on the "online" management system, but can take full advantage of the downloadable features of the ASTRATEL 2 and the backoffice support of INET for Windows. Millennium owners will have control over rating and routing and advertising messages--text and audible. A host of new features are available to Millennium users, including rapid refund, incoming call charging and the ability to update the display at will.

ASTRACel wireless payphones will also be featured at APCC. ASTRACel wireless phones are available in coinless, coin, and card reader configurations, with or without vacuum fluorescent display. ASTRACel inherits the features of the ASTRATEL 2 and uses standard Intellicall software for configuration and backoffice, INET for Windows, for remote management.

An industry standard wireless transceiver is used to facilitate wireless communication, and versions are capable of transmitting in CDMA, TDMA, GSM or AMPS. Application dependent, the ASTRACel supports a variety of communication speeds. For TDMA configuration, the ASTRACel automatically switches to AMPS for incoming or outgoing data calls. An integrated backup battery provides security against power outages.

In addition, Intellicall has also created an ASTRACel Retrofit Kit for upgrading competitors' products to allow network operators to gain the ASTRACel advantages for their existing public telephones.

The 5010 Software, a revenue-enhancing software upgrade available for $249, features Audible Payphone Advertising, Incoming Call Charging, Service Mode Enhancements and Programmable Card Types.

Audible Payphone Advertising uses the proprietary downloadable speech file of the ASTRATEL 2 to play a six to eight second advertisement to all payphone patrons prior to call processing. PSPs can use files provided by Intellicall or supply a digitized audio file for conversion by Intellicall into an ASTRATEL 2 speech file. An annual licensing fee of $500, payable to Intellicall, is required; conversion of PSP digitized audio filed to speech files are $100 per file and can be used in multiple payphones.

PSPs can now charge for incoming calls on the ASTRATEL 2. After going offhook, the phone will prompt the payphone patron for the amount to be deposited; both parties will hear the prompt. Once the proper amount has been deposited, the audio path is released for conversation. The incoming call charging feature supports timed, untimed and free initial period with charged additional period calls.

Service Mode Enhancements provide additional troubleshooting and maintenance options including test mode, debug mode and phone information.

Programmable card types allow owners of credit card equipped phones to program the phone to recognize any standard magnetic card and send the account number in an outpulse rule to an OSP or PIN cards.
