IntelliGeneScan Inc. and California Pacific Medical Center Announce Exclusive License for Biomarker Panel for Colorectal Cancer Detection.

Colon cancer is the second most common cancer diagnosed in the United States.  diagnostic test based upon a biomarker panel discovered at CPMC.

IGS is an early stage Bay Area biotech company focused on disease diagnostics using gene expression analysis. It was founded in 2006 by a group of leading scientists who conceived the original research at CPMC and several business executives with backgrounds in biotech and venture start-ups. The company recently obtained significant investment funding to finance diagnostic system development and continued clinical testing at CPMC. The first product under development is a colon cancer diagnostic test which is minimally invasive, highly accurate and less expensive than those methods currently used in medical practice.

CPMC chose IGS as its licensing partner for several reasons, including IGS' market focus, resource strength, and shared enthusiasm for the potential of our technology to improve colon cancer diagnostic regimen. This license is the culmination of the work of Nancy M. Lee, Ph.D, and her group at CPMC. Dr. Lee's research has already resulted in several related patent applications in the past few years. Dr. Lee is currently a Senior Scientist in the department of Neurosciences at CPMC as well as being a founder of IGS.

Under the agreement, IGS has exclusive worldwide rights to develop and commercialize the colon cancer diagnostic kit. CPMC received an up front payment and is eligible to receive milestone fees and royalties on sales of products covered by this agreement. In conjunction with the license agreement, IGS has provided funding to CPMC for a research program, now in progress, to expand upon the clinical tests which led to the initial discovery. Both CPMC and IGS expect the results of this program will confirm the findings of the first battery of tests and also lead to enhancements in its detection processes.
