IntelliCorp's Live Modeling Tools Accelerate the SAP R/3 Implementation.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 30, 1996--IntelliCorp (NASDAQ:INAI) has introduced a new generation of modeling tools that accelerate the implementation of SAP's R/3 client/server enterprise application system. IntelliCorp's LiveModel(tm) for R/3 product allows SAP R/3 implementation teams to understand their business design more completely, resulting in more efficient business engineering decisions during the design stage.

LiveModel for R/3 simulates the R/3 system execution directly from the SAP R/3 Reference Model, so the effects of business engineering decisions can be validated before they are implemented. Until now, SAP customers test the R/3 implementation after significant business engineering has occurred, which is more costly and time-consuming, and can be less responsive to user requests. Furthermore, business engineering is an ongoing effort, so the models can serve as a basis for life cycle support.

LiveModel for R/3, a member of IntelliCorp's new ModelWorks(tm) family, promises to lower the R/3 system implementation time and cost for the R/3 customer organization, and lower technical complexity for the consulting partners who can focus on business design issues.

SAP Process Modeling Methodology, R/3 Repository API Support

As a result of this pioneering effort, LiveModel for R/3 includes a link between the SAP Event-driven Process Chain (EPC) methodology and Object-Oriented Information Engineering (OOIE), the Martin/Odell methodology that is implemented in IntelliCorp's products. "Simulating the R/3 system execution from the EPC models opens new doors for implementation teams," notes Dr. Peter Zencke, SAP executive board member responsible for overall development of supply chain management products. "The combination of our application infrastructure and IntelliCorp's modeling tools demonstrates how we see third party vendors combining their tools with R/3 to improve implementation."

IntelliCorp has worked closely with SAP for three years to create this new generation of modeling tools, in anticipation of the release of R/3's Repository API. By utilizing the new Repository API, LiveModel for R/3 is able to extract the R/3 models from the repository, provide facilities to browse, modify, and print them, and simulate the R/3 system execution in conjunction with the models. This tool enables users to navigate the models and understand the relationships between models, transactions and tables. The target audience will be the consulting partners and R/3 customer implementation teams.

Integrate Legacy Systems

"The dynamic capabilities of LiveModel for R/3 enable its diagrams to have live connections to the R/3 system," explained Ken Haas, president of IntelliCorp. "Connecting the R/3 system and the live modeling environment simulates the R/3 system execution in the design stage of the implementation process. For example, a business analyst may step through the Process Model and for each event, have the actual R/3 transaction execute and show the associated input screens", Haas said. "If legacy systems need to be integrated into the re-engineered process, these systems can also be linked into a diagram, understood in terms of data process and system organization, and run during the live execution of the event process", he added.

SAP implementation partners are expected to incorporate this tool into their SAP practice. CSC Consulting has used LiveModel for a number of their client engagements. Now available to selected SAP customers in a Managed Release program, LiveModel for R/3 is a member of the ModelWorks family and an evolution of IntelliCorp's Object Management Workbench(tm). LiveModel for R/3 runs in the Unix environment, and as announced previously by IntelliCorp, the future development direction is to provide a complete modeling and simulation environment on Windows 95.
