Intel releases new chipset.
Intel Corp has launched a new chipset for performance PCs based on its Pentium III processors.
The Intel 820E chipset features a new input/output controller hub (ICH2) for greater system performance and flexibility. While the chipset offers the same RDRAM memory controller hub found on the Intel 820 chipset introduced in November, the ICH2 provides an additional universal serial bus controller, a LAN connect interface, dual Ultra ATA/100 controllers and audio capabilities of up to six channels.
The Intel 820E is available now, priced at USD35/chipset in 1,000-unit quantities.
