Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 11, 2002

Intel Corporation today announced that 25 companies will receive the Preferred Quality Supplier (PQS) award for outstanding commitment to quality and performance excellence. These 25 suppliers provided products and services deemed essential to Intel's success in the year 2001. These companies exceeded high expectations and tough performance goals to distinguish themselves from the thousands of suppliers that worked with Intel last year. Winners will be honored at a ceremony in Burlingame, Calif., on March 13.

Award winning suppliers are: ChipPAC Inc.; Compaq Computer Corporation; Compeq Manufacturing Company Ltd.; Delta Electronics Inc.; Dow Corning; ESEC; Fujimi America Inc.; General Electric Industrial Systems and Water Technologies divisions; Hitachi High Technologies; Ibiden Company Ltd.; IBM Corporation; LTK Automation Sdn. Bhd.; Mitsui Chemicals Inc.; NEC Electron Devices, System LSI Operations Unit; Novellus Systems Inc.; NTK Technical Ceramics; Samsung Electro-Mechanics/Advanced Circuit Interconnection Business; Sanyo Denki Company Ltd.; Schlumberger Semiconductor Solutions; Senju Metal Industry Company Ltd.; Shin-Etsu Company Ltd.; SUMCO Corporation; TDK Corporation; Tokyo Ohka Kogyo, TOK/OHKA America; and United Van Lines, LLC.

"Intel's Supplier Continuous Quality Improvement process and Preferred Quality Supplier awards have benefited both Intel and its suppliers," said Gidu Shroff, vice president, Intel's Technology and Manufacturing Group and director of Materials. "We instituted this process to drive quality and continuous improvement in our supply base. In return, we have seen our component quality improve and our supply-chain business practices advance. I am thrilled for this year's recipients and proud to be associated with such outstanding companies that are obviously leaders in their respective industries."

"The Preferred Quality Supplier award winners this year have demonstrated a significant commitment to total customer satisfaction during a difficult year for our industry," said Jai Hakhu, vice president, Intel's Technology and Manufacturing Group and general manager of technology manufacturing engineering. "Their contributions of innovative technology, ongoing cost reduction and their focus on customer support have been exemplary."

The PQS awards are part of Intel's Supplier Continuous Quality Improvement process that encourages suppliers to strive for excellence and continuous improvement. To qualify for PQS status, suppliers must score high on a report card that assesses performance and ability to meet cost, quality, availability, technology and responsiveness goals. Suppliers must also manage and deliver on a challenging improvement plan and a quality systems assessment. Additional information about the SCQI program is available at http://supplier.intel.com/quality/.
