subsidiary today announced that they have entered into an agreement with VxTel(TM), a supplier of silicon solutions for next-generation carrier networks, to supply the key building blocks to equipment providers for enhanced media gateways and media servers. These converged communications building blocks allow equipment manufacturers to offer highly scalable Voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP), Voice-over-ATM (VoATM), and Voice-over-DSL (VoDSL) products.

High-Density Solutions for Carrier Networks

VxTel has developed a unique signal-processing architecture optimized for VoIP, VoDSL, VoCable, fax and data applications. Intel Dialogic's media streaming platform architecture complements VxTel's scalable, programmable, high-performance voice signal processor, enabling OEMs to create high-density, and highly available multiservice converged communications systems In telecommunication, a communications system is a collection of individual communications networks, transmission systems, relay stations, tributary stations, and data terminal equipment (DTE) usually capable of interconnection and interoperation to form an integrated whole. .

Intel Dialogic and VxTel are working together to deliver next-generation scalability for solutions based on open standards Specifications for hardware and software that are developed by a standards organization or a consortium involved in supporting a standard. Available to the public for developing compliant products, open standards imply "open systems;" that an existing component in a system can be replaced . The agreement will enable "off-the-shelf" VoIP hardware, software, tools and platforms to significantly accelerate customer's time-to-market. First phase of products will offer DS3 level density cPCI gateway boards going up to OC3 in subsequent releases. Intel Dialogic with its consulting services organization will also provide custom solutions to OEMs. The voice and data products developed with this technology offer the best density, power, functionality, and universality in the open platform market. The agreement entails the development of solutions using VxTel's DSP (1) (Digital Signal Processor) A special-purpose CPU used for digital signal processing applications (see definition #2 below). It provides ultra-fast instruction sequences, such as shift and add, and multiply and add, which are commonly used in math-intensive  technology along with Intel's Internet Exchange See IXP and NAP. (TM) (IX) architecture and provides wire speed packet processing required for next generation solution.

Dialogic was one of the pioneers in the delivery of the very first open, standards-based gateway in 1996, shipped the first H.323 compliant gateway in 1997, and is a leader in providing high value, fully featured VoIP solutions. The new products from this agreement with VxTel allow Intel Dialogic to raise the bar on scalability.

A Winning Combination

The Intel Dialogic/VxTel relationship offers a winning combination of technology, experience, and a network of partners to enable next-generation network solutions. VxTel's innovative technology, coupled with Intel Dialogic's broad base of products, and over 15 years of experience serving the public network market, offers a unique advantage to customers. Intel Dialogic also offers a range of services including design consulting, server integration and reference systems.

With this agreement, Intel Dialogic is extending what was already the industry's broadest selection of building block solutions for service provider networks, including:
- A full range of high-performance, highly scalable SS7 solutions

- Robust media functionality for enhanced services

- Broad range of Internet telephony products for solutions such as IP telephony
gateways, IP-enabled enhanced services and Internet clients

- A family of network interface products supporting a wide variety of
protocols, approved for use in over 70 countries.

"Service providers clearly need the flexibility to adapt to the changing requirements of next generation infrastructures," said Megan Gurley, research analyst, The Yankee Group (the Yankee Group, Boston, MA, www.yankeegroup.com) A major market research, analysis and consulting firm founded in 1970 by Howard Anderson. It provides general consulting and strategic planning in the computer and communications field. . "So far, open, standards-based solutions suitable for this environment have not offered the kind of scalability essential to make these solutions cost effective. Intel Dialogic's solutions bridges this gap and provides the mix of flexibility and scalability that service providers need in order to support converged communications."

"Working with VxTel allows us to effectively address some crucial components of the new infrastructure by expanding our product line. We are impressed by VxTel's technical team and product solution. Our engagement with VxTel has helped us expedite development, enabling timely delivery of robust solutions to our partners."

"We are delivering silicon solutions for next-generation networks, and Intel Dialogic are the leaders in providing open platforms for OEMS," said Shri Dodani, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of VxTel. "Intel is clearly committed to serving the service-provider marketplace. We saw a natural fit between our architecture and the Intel Dialogic product line as a way to provide a total solution. There is tremendous synergy between our two teams, and we are expecting Intel Dialogic customers will benefit significantly from this strong alliance."
