Intel Awards Coveted Supplier Continuous Quality Improvement Award; Chip Maker Also Awards Preferred Quality Supplier Status to 16 Key Suppliers.


SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 6, 1999--Intel Corporation today announced that it has awarded both its coveted Supplier Continuous Quality Improvement (SCQI SCQI Supplier Continuous Quality Improvement (Intel) ) award and its Preferred Quality Supplier (PQS) award to United Van Lines United Van Lines is a moving van company now part of UniGroup, Inc. It is the largest mover in the United States with more than 30% market share (according to the US Bureau of Transportation Statistics).  and NEC (NEC Corporation, Tokyo, www.nec.com, www.necus.com) An electronics conglomerate known in the U.S. for its monitors. In Japan, it had the lion's share of the PC market until the late 1990s (see PC 98).

GEORGE FISCHER+GF+Piping Systems supplies piping systems for measurement, conveyance and control of high purity process fluids.

Pulse provides magnetic components for Intel networking, power and telecom applications. Amkor and Anam provide assembly and test contracting for semiconductor packages. To qualify for SCQI status, suppliers must attain 95 percent or better on a four-quarter report card, attain 90 percent performance against an aligned annual improvement plan, and finally, attain an overall score of 63 percent or more on the Standardized Supplier Quality Assessment (SSQA SSQA Sunshine State Quilters Association (Kissimmee, FL)

To qualify for PQS status, suppliers must attain 80 percent or better on a four-quarter report card, attain 80 percent performance against an aligned annual improvement plan, and finally, attain an overall score of 55 percent or more on the Standardized Supplier Quality Assessment (SSQA). SSQA is based on ISO 9000, Malcolm Baldrige and industry software quality criteria.

Intel recognizes PQS and SCQI winners with a full-page advertisement in the Wall Street Journal and an awards ceremony. Wall Street Journal ads will run in American editions on April 6 and in Asian editions April 8.

The SCQI and PQS awards are part of Intel's Supplier Continuous Quality Improvement (SCQI) process. The goal of this process is to encourage Intel's key suppliers to strive for excellence and continuous improvement. A key supplier is one who provides a product or service deemed essential to Intel's success.
