Intel Corporation (company) Intel Corporation - A US microelectronics manufacturer. They produced the Intel 4004, Intel 8080, Intel 8086, Intel 80186, Intel 80286, Intel 80386, Intel 486 and Pentium microprocessor families as well as many other integrated circuits and personal computer networking  today announced its newest version of Flash Data Integrator Software, Intel(R) FDI 3.0. The software helps designers enable handheld devices to handle the complex features and demands of Internet data storage. Intel(R) FDI 3.0 enables developers to accommodate data intensive wireless applications such as the storage of Java applets A Java program that is downloaded from the server and run from the browser. The Java Virtual Machine built into the browser is interpreting the instructions. Contrast with Java application. , files transferred over Bluetooth(TM), microbrowser cache and voice recognition tags. Intel(R) FDI 3.0 software and Intel flash products together allow developers and OEMs to add more features and functionality while simplifying design, lowering costs and reducing time-to-market.

"Handset designers are faced with managing the quantity and size of data emerging in next-generation Internet phones (1) See IP phone and softphone.

and wireless devices," said Curt Nichols, general manager, Flash Products Group. "Wireless device developers who want to add new features, like Java-based games or voice commands and memos, can support these sophisticated designs while saving on board space, battery usage, cost and design time. This is critical to the demanding and fast-growing wireless/handheld market segment."

Phone.com, Inc. has designed its UP.Browser(R) microbrowser, currently licensed by more than 35 wireless phone manufacturers worldwide, to be optimized for Intel's FDI 3.0 software. This improves the capability of a mobile phone to store and access larger amounts of Internet-based information while enhancing data management capabilities.

"Because Internet functionality is a key feature on mobile phones, Intel and Phone.com have worked closely to ensure the compatibility of FDI 3.0 and the Phone.com(TM) UP.Browser microbrowser," said Jeff Damir, group vice president, Device Product Group for Phone.com. "This combination of Intel's data management software and Phone.com's UP.Browser microbrowser will improve memory utilization and minimize the integration time and effort for wireless device manufacturers."

Intel(R) FDI 3.0 eliminates the need for EEPROM (Electrically Erasable Programmable ROM) A rewritable memory chip that holds its content without power. Although EEPROMs spawned flash memory, EEPROMs are byte addressable at the write level, whereas flash chips must erase a block of bytes before rewriting.  and can reduce SRAM See static RAM.

requirements to save overall system cost, power and size. The software allows Read-While-Write functionality to be deployed on both low- or high-end OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  platforms, and when combined with dual-partitioned silicon, maximizes overall system performance. For use in real-time embedded applications, Intel(R) FDI 3.0 has an easy Application Programmers Interface that supports storing parameters for EEPROM replacement, data streams for voice recording, Java/native code for direct execution and downloads from a packet data network. The 3.0 upgrade adds packetized data storage, code management, support for dual-plane and burst/page mode operation to enhance product performance.

The Intel Developer Forum Conference is Intel's premier technical forum comprising nearly 250 sessions and hands-on labs and more than 100 demonstrations of cutting-edge products and technologies. IDF attracts thousands of hardware and software developers worldwide. Now in its third year, the semi-annual conference provides hardware OEMs (original equipment manufacturers), IHVs (independent hardware vendors), and ISVs (independent software vendors) with in-depth information on Intel technologies and initiatives. More information on the Intel Developer Forum can be found at http://developer.intel.com/idf. Updated information is available between Intel Developer Forums by subscribing to the Intel Developer Update Magazine at http://developer.intel.com/update/.
