Inspiration knocks. As the editor of the magazine, I have the unique position of attending a multitude of different events at NRPA's Congress & Exposition every year. This year, as I visited event after event, I noticed a theme that I thought was important to share. In almost every reception, banquet or awards ceremony I attended, I noticed that people were always talking about their mentor, or someone that influenced them and pushed them to succeed. As Tom Farrell For the Gimme Gimme Gimme character, see . Thomas ("Tom") Francis Farrell (born 18 January, 1944) was an American athlete who competed mainly in the 800 metres. He attended academic and athletic powerhouse Archbishop Molloy High School in Queens, New York. was sworn in as incoming NRPA NRPA National Recreation and Park Association NRPA Natural Resources Protective Association (Staten Island, NY) NRPA Niagara Regional Police Association (Canada) NRPA National Rifle and Pistol Association president, he spoke of his peers in the New England New England, name applied to the region comprising six states of the NE United States—Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. The region is thought to have been so named by Capt. region who supported him, and what it meant to him to have that support. Fran Mainella, outgoing director of the National Park Service, spoke of the directors who came before her, and what she learned from the variety of people she worked with during her tenure. Terry Robertson, president of NTRS NTRS NASA Technical Report Server NTRS National Therapeutic Recreation Society NTRS National Technology Roadmap for Semiconductors NTRS National Technology Readiness Survey , gave a number of citations to people in the park and recreation field who have inspired him. It made me think of my past mentors, and people who have inspired me along my professional career. I always modeled my work style after my father's--he didn't go to college, but through hard work, perseverance and an amazing zest for what he does, he's risen to success in his field. My college professors Dr. David Wendelken and Flip Deluca both challenged me in the area of journalism, and pushed me to ask the right questions. And one of the toughest people I've ever worked for, Suzanne Harper, made me appreciate what the quest for Verb 1. quest for - go in search of or hunt for; "pursue a hobby" quest after, go after, pursue look for, search, seek - try to locate or discover, or try to establish the existence of; "The police are searching for clues"; "They are searching for the perfection can create. Inspiration can occur around you--although it's nice to see old colleagues at events like Congress, make sure you are opening your eyes to those that inspire, support, push or challenge you on a daily basis.
