Baltimore Society Awards Council Chair, Mary Somerville Mary Somerville (December 26, 1780 – November 28, 1872) was a Scottish science writer and polymath, at a time when women's participation in science was discouraged. , of Insl-X Products, congratulates Thomas Mitchell Major Sir Thomas Livingston Mitchell (June 16, 1792-1855), surveyor and explorer of south-eastern Australia, was born at Grangemouth in Stirlingshire, Scotland. He was educated at the University of Edinburgh, but the poverty of his family following his father's death led him to  on receiving the Herman Schuger Memorial Award. Presented at the Society's November meeting, the award is given in recognition of a member's outstanding service to the industry.
