Insight columnist stalked by love-crazed MP (C.I. November 2007).In their arrogance, successive Liberal governments have determined that it is acceptable to disregard Catholic voters and their Catholic consciences. The result has been a parade of pseudo-Catholic prime ministers, a deteriorating society, and an increasingly apathetic electorate. Interestingly, the latest census (2001) indicates that "seven out of every ten Canadians identify themselves as either Roman Catholic or Protestant." That's a lot of Christmas dinners, Advent wreaths, nativity scenes, carolling, advent calendars, and Christmas Masses. So, when MP Sue Barnes disregards the wide-spread Christian practice of celebrating Christmas, she neglects to take into account the faith of the majority of the country. She also negates the history of Canada. Not even a Liberal politician is capable of rewriting the efforts of stalwart missionaries, nurses, doctors, priests, and laymen who followed their faith and came to make the wilderness of Canada a better place, a Christian place. Herman Goodden did an excellent job of pointing out the lunacy in the situation. But, what are good Catholics to do? Pray, encourage the celebration of Christmas in your homes, send out Christmas cards (yes, even to Liberals), wish store clerks a genuine "Merry Christmas," help out a neighbour, teach your children the faith, attend church regularly, support your pastor, and love one another. Oh, and consider carefully whether you want to vote for a party that is so politically correct that it can ignore Christ's birth and the season of Christmas! Parry Sound, ON |
