Instructor Wins Gold Medal The AICPA announced the winners of the Elijah Watt Sells awards for the Uniform CPA Examination held in November 1999. Elizabeth Kinney, of Jersey City, New Jersey, a senior resident lead instructor for the IRS, took the gold medal. Kinney received the highest score of the 70,000 candidates. Kinney has served in various positions with the IRS, where she started as a co-op college student. She holds a bachelor's degree in business, administration from Pace University and a master's degree in taxation from Long Island University. The Sells Award, instituted in 1923 and presented twice a year by the AICPA, recognizes the contributions to the accounting profession of Elijah Watt Sells, a founding partner of Haskins & Sells, a predecessor of Deloitte & Touche LLP LLP - Lower Layer Protocol . Sells was one of the first CPAs licensed under a New York New York, state, United States New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. It is bordered by Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the Atlantic Ocean (E), New Jersey and Pennsylvania (S), Lakes Erie and Ontario and the Canadian province of state law enacted in 1896 and played an active role in the creation of the AICPA. CPA Exam Graders Needed The AICPA is seeking CPAs and attorneys to assist in grading future CPA exams. The Uniform CPA Examination is given twice a year--in May and November. The grading period begins two to three weeks after the exam is given and continues for about six weeks. Graders are paid $15 an hour and must provide a minimum of three seven-hour days each week. All grading is done at the AICPA's Jersey City office. Grading facilities are open every day of the week including Saturdays and Sundays, and CPA exam graders will receive 16 AICPA CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) Communications equipment that resides on the customer's premises.
