Inphi Corporation Debuts 12.5 Gbps Single-ended Mach Zehnder Drivers; Expands Breadth and Depth of Driver Product Family.

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 18, 2004

New High-Speed Drivers Provide Exceptional Stability and

Performance to Extend Network Reach in Metro, Long Haul Long distance. Long haul implies traversing a state or a country. Contrast with short haul.  and

Ultra Long Haul Markets

Widening its opto-electronic market leadership, Inphi Corporation (www.inphi-corp.com) today debuted its 12.5 Gbps single-ended Mach Zehnder (MZ) drivers, the newest members of its comprehensive OC-192 SONET/SDH family of modulator Modulator

Any device or circuit by means of which a desired signal is impressed upon a higher-frequency periodic wave known as a carrier. The process is called modulation. The modulator may vary the amplitude, frequency, or phase of the carrier.
 drivers.

The newly launched 1310SZ, 1311SZ and 1312SZ support NRZ (Non-Return-to-Zero) A data transmission method in which the 0s and 1s are represented by different polarities, typically positive for 0 and negative for 1. See NRZI.

NRZ - Non Return to Zero
data rates up to 12.5 Gbps and deliver outstanding performance for equipment manufacturers depending on high-quality, cost-competitive transponder A receiver/transmitter on a communications satellite. It receives a microwave signal from earth (uplink), amplifies it and retransmits it back to earth at a different frequency (downlink). A satellite has several transponders.  components. These high performance devices are intended for use in a wide range of applications such as metro, long haul and ultra haul network systems.

"Inphi is pleased to continue to drive excellence in component technology for the full range of optical communications networks," said Gopal Raghavan, chief technology officer at Inphi. "The combination of exceptional performance and breadth of operating conditions will ease design concerns and help bring critical products to market quickly."

The single-ended MZ driver group yield superior edge rates, high output eye quality (see www.inphi-corp.com/products/), and low jitter A flicker or fluctuation in a transmission signal or display image. The term is used in several ways, but it always refers to some offset of time and space from the norm. For example, in a network transmission, jitter would be a bit arriving either ahead or behind a standard clock cycle , making them ideal for high-bit-rate, non-return-to-zero (NRZ) transmission systems. The drivers have an output range from 3V to 6.5Vs using standard MSA (Metropolitan Service Area) An urban area with at least 50,000 people plus surrounding counties. There are 306 MSAs and 428 RSAs (rural service areas) in the U.S. MSAs and RSAs are used to allocate cellular licenses.  supplies and an input range from 200mV to 1200mV. This makes the product group a clear solution for equipment manufacturers that require enhanced performance to extend the reach of their optical equipment.

Each of the drivers, the 1310SZ, 1311SZ and 1312SZ, demonstrates excellent output amplitude stability, eye crossing stability, and low jitter over variations in temperature and voltage supply. The new parts feature output/input inversion and automatic low power standby on a loss of signal condition. Each of the parts meets the stringent Telecordia specifications. The 1312SZ includes an integrated bias-tee, which reduces the required external component count to three passive surface mount devices. Furthermore, the devices are hermetically her·met·ic   also her·met·i·cal

1. Completely sealed, especially against the escape or entry of air.

2. Impervious to outside interference or influence:
sealed eliminating the potential for field failures due to environmental conditions.

Pricing and Availability

The 1310SZ driver is available in a die form or packaged in a heat down version 32-lead quad flat package (8 by 8 millimeters), 1311SZ driver is packaged in a heat up version 32-lead quad flat package, and the 1312SZ is packaged in a 120-ball BGA (Ball Grid Array) A popular surface mount chip package that uses a grid of solder balls as its connectors. Available in plastic and ceramic varieties, BGA is noted for its compact size, high lead count and low inductance, which allows lower voltages to be used.  package (18 x 18 mm) with integrated bias-tee. All of the drivers are available on an evaluation board.

The single ended drivers are available immediately in sample quantities. The pricing for production quantities is $200 for the packaged part.
