 President Judith Kuipers, in announcing the appointment, stated: "This new program is unique in that it places psychology at the forefront of media communication. The program represents a new and significant opportunity to use media in new and creative ways in healthcare, education, commerce, publishing, government, and entertainment."

"Our vision for this program is to provide a meaningful opportunity for professionals interested in creating and using media effectively. Media psychology has become a cutting-edge subject offering new career options. This is a program whose time is here," said School of Psychology Dean Ronald Giannetti.

"The Media Studies Program is perfect for working professionals," said Luskin. Explaining the scope of this new program, he stated, "Digital media are changing the ways we work and live. The study of media effects offers many research challenges and there is a great deal to discover. `Pscybermedia' blends psychology, artificial intelligence, media and technology. This is a unique global program for the 21st century. Fielding's headquarters is located in the world's major digital media corridor, between Santa Barbara and San Diego San Diego (săn dēā`gō), city (1990 pop. 1,110,549), seat of San Diego co., S Calif., on San Diego Bay; inc. 1850. San Diego includes the unincorporated communities of La Jolla and Spring Valley. Coronado is across the bay. , centered in Hollywood, and the entertainment industry. A faculty member since 1996, Luskin initially developed Fielding's program option in media psychology within the clinical psychology program. Luskin's recent work has focused on developing and establishing the vision of media psychology across other venues. "Dr. Luskin also leads the Fielding initiative in Community College Leadership, and has introduced Media Studies into the Ed.D program in the School of Educational Leadership and Change," said School Dean Judy Witt.

Luskin is a seasoned media professional with experience as a producer of media programs, principal investigator for numerous research studies, and author of eight books. His research includes serving as Co-director of the American Psychological Association's Media Psychology Division's Task Force study of new career opportunities for psychologists in media and new technologies.
