Innovation Data Processing data processing or information processing, operations (e.g., handling, merging, sorting, and computing) performed upon data in accordance with strictly defined procedures, such as recording and summarizing the financial transactions of a , a market leader in storage management products, recently announced that FDR(R)/UPSTREAM(R) has expanded its support for S/390(R) Linux to now include new online agents for the Oracle and DB2 database management systems.

FDR/UPSTREAM is a complete storage management solution for corporate data distributed across a heterogeneous network (networking) heterogeneous network - A network running multiple network layer protocols such as DECnet, IP, IPX, XNS. . FDR/UPSTREAM provides enterprise-wide storage management for a variety of platforms including: Novell, Windows, Linux, UNIX servers and workstations using the z/OS(a) or OS/390(R) MVS (Multiple Virtual Storage) Introduced in 1974, the primary operating system used with IBM mainframes (the others are VM and DOS/VSE). MVS is a batch processing-oriented operating system that manages large amounts of memory and disk space.  mainframes as the backup server. Complementing its extensive support, UPSTREAM can also be used for companies adding applications and servers using OS/390 UNIX UNIX

Operating system for digital computers, developed by Ken Thompson of Bell Laboratories in 1969. It was initially designed for a single user (the name was a pun on the earlier operating system Multics).
and S/390 Linux. UPSTREAM provides comprehensive features such as backup/restore, file transfer, file migration and disaster recovery vaulting with centrally administered profile policy management.

FDR/UPSTREAM provides extensive support for S/390 Linux implementations; including S/390 Linux for Red Hat, SuSE(R), TurboLinux(R) and Marist operating system variants. The attraction of S/390 Linux is that corporations can easily consolidate servers into the S/390 Linux LPAR (Logical PARtition) A logical segmentation of a mainframe's memory and other resources that allows it to run its own copy of the operating system and associated applications. LPARs are caused by special hardware circuits and allow multiple system images to run in one machine.  or virtual machine thereby making the application less administrative intensive and more cost-effective. UPSTREAM complies with and expands on that goal with rock solid mainframe reliability and an impressive arsenal of tools to help the storage administrator deal with the management of this data.

FDR/UPSTREAM's database agents provide online backup capability, thereby giving the organization maximum protection for the data without having to impact the bottom line by having to bring the database down in order to do the administrative function of backing up. UPSTREAM is fully integrated into Oracle's Recovery Manager (RMAN RMAN Recovery Manager
RMAN Recovered Materials Advisory Notices (US EPA)
). The Oracle Recovery Manager is an extremely full-featured backup facility and can be used with FDR/UPSTREAM to perform online and offline, full, incremental and tablespace backups of databases, tablespaces and data files. Some of the features supported include multi-channel backups, backup sets, image copies, stored scripts, Recovery Manager reports, tags, integrity checking and more.

UPSTREAM fully integrates with IBM's DB2 Universal Server. This full-featured facility includes online and offline, full support of complete databases, or individual tablespaces. UPSTREAM can operate as a user exit that allows on demand or system generated transaction log backups which act as incrementals and result in reduced data transmission. Advanced UPSTREAM features provide high performance multi-channel operations for backups and restores and interaction with DB2 scripts that result in seamless operations with additional benefits of reduced training costs.

UPSTREAM supplies extensive support for S/390 Linux including advanced UNIX file system The Unix file system (UFS) is a file system used by many Unix and Unix-like operating systems. It is also called the Berkeley Fast File System, the BSD Fast File System or FFS. It is a distant descendant of the original filesystem used by Version 7 Unix. . Specific features include hard links, symbolic links, owners, single file system support, support for Reiser file system as well as ext2, ext3 and remote NFS (Network File System) The file sharing protocol in a Unix network. This de facto Unix standard, which is widely known as a "distributed file system," was developed by Sun. See file sharing protocol and WebNFS.

Innovation with this release once again demonstrates its superiority in product design and implementation. With a worldwide customer base and 30 years experience in backup, restore, hierarchical storage management See HSM.  and disaster recovery, Innovation is internationally recognized for non-disruptive backups and its inventiveness in this market segment.
