Injustice Postponed.

Injustice Postponed

   As shackles swooned
   a reluctant exit
   and fibrous bonds
   fell loosed about
   in reptilian fashion
   'mid cannonading shrieks
   from startled grateful souls
   inside that wretch'd stockade
   where they did languish
   end-to-end and side-by-side
   amid malignant squalor
   ere countless days
   of mortal fear and flailing
   subdued to passive pride
   ensuring calmest voyage
   across Atlantic seas--
   for naught
   now that reprieve at hand
   to mitigate such inhuman want.
