The new DraegerSensor IR monitors combustible gases and vapors in ambient air. Designed with retrofitting catalytic bead sensors in mind, it allows for upgrading existing installations with the latest technology, without having to replace the transmitter electronics. Exchanging an existing catalytic bead sensor is as easy as changing a light bulb. The DraegerSensor IR is 100% backwards compatible to the Draeger transmitters Polytron FX and Polytron 2 XP Ex.

Draeger Safety first introduced the IR sensor technology in 1993, and based on this experience has designed a revolutionary new sensor. This new IR sensor is not affected by the presence of any gases and vapors, which make a catalytic bead sensor quickly decrease in sensitivity. These include volatile sulfur and phosphorous compounds (especially H2S and SO2), corrosive substances (HCl, NO2, Cl2), polymerizing substances, organometallic compounds (e.g. tetraethyl lead) and also some halogenated hydrocarbons (refrigerants, CFCs). Combined with an excellent measurement performance, backed by ATEX certificates, the DraegerSensor IR is the perfect technology for demanding applications.

Together with the explosion-proof Polytron FX and Polytron 2 XP Ex transmitters, Draeger Safety offers a wide variety of performance. They can be tailored to customer specific applications, from a basic gas detector, to a high end, stand alone transmitter, with on-board relays, standard 4 to 20 mA output, or bus communication via HART(R) or RS485.
