Infrant Technologies Releases ReadyNAS Operating System Upgrade; Infrant RAIDiator Version 2.0 With Media Server and Integrated Backup Manager.


FREMONT, Calif. -- Infrant Technologies today announced an updated operating system for its ReadyNAS and OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  partner NAS (1) See network access server.

(2) (Network Attached Storage) A specialized file server that connects to the network. A NAS device contains a slimmed-down operating system and a file system and processes only I/O requests by supporting the popular
 appliances. The RAIDiator OS is an embedded Linux-based operating system designed to work specifically with the Infrant NSP (1) (Network Service Provider) An organization that provides a high-speed Internet backbone to ISPs and other service providers. Sprint, MCI and UUNET are examples of NSPs. See Internet backbones. . The OS is embedded on flash memory for additional reliability and is completely administered via a browser-based GUI for simplicity.

Building upon its leading edge performance and award winning features, RAIDiator 2.0 now includes the following enhancements:

--Home Media Streaming Server for streaming personal videos, music, and pictures to network DVD players

--UPnP AV support for multimedia streaming to Digital Media Adapters

--Integrated Backup Manager supporting backups between remote CIFS (Common Internet File System) The file sharing protocol used in Windows. It evolved out of the SMB (Server Message Block) protocol in DOS, which is why the terms CIFS/SMB and SMB/CIFS are sometimes seen. NTFS is the more advanced file system, compared to FAT32. It improves performance and is required in order to implement numerous security and administrative features in the OS.  

--Recycle Bin for Windows users

--FTP port designation and user login support for secure access from outside the firewall

--SMTP port designation and login allow for enhanced compatibility with external email systems

--Automatic firmware update checking and download options

--Auto power-off on disk failure option
