TrueSpectra Inc., a leading Internet imaging software developer, and Informix(R) Corporation (Nasdaq:IFMX IFMX Informix Corporation ), the technology leader in enterprise database-powered solutions, today announced a strategic partnership to create an image foundation.

The foundation, owned by Informix and based on TrueSpectra technology, will provide an integrated solution for storing, modifying and publishing images directly from an Informix database to any imaging application.

The Image Foundation will incorporate a collection of TrueSpectra Image Server technologies, including efficient, high-speed server-based imaging algorithms The following is a list of the algorithms described in Wikipedia. See also the list of data structures, list of algorithm general topics and list of terms relating to algorithms and data structures. , which provide on-demand image manipulation such as cropping, filtering and color correction Altering the colors in an image in order to print or display it properly or for special effects. Depending on the application, color correction can be a significant problem if the resulting image must be approved or a purchase is made because of color choice. . Integrating these technologies with Informix' industry leading object-relational database A database that provides both relational and object database capabilities. See universal server.  will eliminate many asset management challenges including, enabling image content to be stored and modified directly within the database. Image application providers will also be able to immediately leverage the scalability, security, and robustness of Informix database technology. This powerful combination supports enterprise and image-intensive application used in customized solutions such as content management.

"Extending Informix's high performance database with TrueSpectra's Image Foundation technology will fundamentally shift the way developers work with visually rich content," said Sasa Radulovic, vice president of product development for TrueSpectra. "By working with Informix, a leader in database driven media and publishing solutions, we will attract a new class of developers to the potential of imaging in the enterprise and on the Internet."

Informix will develop and deploy the Image Foundation as a DataBlade(R) Module, which will be incorporated into the Informix Dynamic Server(TM) with Universal Data Option(TM). Upon completion of this DataBlade Module, image application development will be streamlined and accelerated by eliminating the need to implement image storage, search and transformation functionality required by media and Internet applications. As a result, partners and third party application developers will be able to focus on the creation of innovative image applications and solutions.

"This partnership establishes the Informix database as the leading platform for storing media data and provides our customers with the first scalable database-driven imaging solution based on standard object-relational technology," said Carolyn Layne, vice president of the Media Business Unit at Informix. "As a result, Web-based and enterprise systems will now be able to leverage the benefits and power of object relational databases relational database
