InfoComm Distinguished Achievement Award Presented to Industry Legend, Fred Dixon, CTS; Third Annual AV Awards Banquet at InfoComm 06 Celebrates Industry Excellence.


ORLANDO, Fla. -- InfoComm International(R), the premier professional audiovisual trade association, presented its Distinguished Achievement Award to Fred Dixon Fred Dixon (January 20, 1881-1931) was a Manitoba politician, and was for several years the dominant figure in the province's mainstream labour movement.

With over 53 years in the professional AV industry, Fred Dixon's accomplishments are unparalleled. Founding an audiovisual repair business while still in high school, Dixon was then launched into the position of Chief Engineer for the Audio Visual department at Michigan State University Michigan State University, at East Lansing; land-grant and state supported; coeducational; chartered 1855. It opened in 1857 as Michigan Agricultural College, the first state agricultural college. . Upon leaving Michigan State, Dixon devoted full attention to Projection Repair, the business he started in high school. Dixon sold Projection Repair to Newman Visual Education, Inc. in 1969, maintaining a management position within the company. In 1976, he was transferred to headquarters as State Service Manager, where he and his team would oversee the maintenance of over ten thousand pieces of equipment per year. Dixon spent countless hours conducting monthly seminars for service staff and in-service workshops for sales staff, as well as helping customers develop their own service departments.

Dixon left Newman Visual Education in 1979 and founded Dixon Media Systems & Design, Inc. As President and Chief Designer, he continued his hands-on approach to quality AV service. Dixon Media Systems & Design, Inc. has worked with Kellogg Company For other uses, see Kellogg.

Honored with the first ICIA-PETC Service in Education Award in 1999, the award now bears his name -- The Fred Dixon Service in Education Award. In 2001, Dixon was appointed Chairman of the National Technology Committee for the Audio Visual Division of Skills USA program. He was named a lifetime member of InfoComm International and has been instrumental in helping to develop Academy programs.

InfoComm's Distinguished Achievement Award is the highest honor bestowed on an industry member by the association. "When the InfoComm Board of Governors considers honoring a member with the Distinguished Achievement Award, two major criteria are applied - the career accomplishments of an individual, and the individual's contribution to the AV industry," said Randal A.
