Info Plant Surveys Use of Cellphone Email.


Tokyo Tokyo (tō`kēō), city (1990 pop. 8,163,573), capital of Japan and of Tokyo prefecture, E central Honshu, at the head of Tokyo Bay. , Japan, Sept 6, 2005 - (JCNN JCNN Japan Corporate News Network ) - Online market researcher Info Plant conducted a survey of 9,379 i-mode users (31.8% male, 68.2% female) from August 9 to 16 on how frequently they send and receive email using their cellular handsets.

Of those who responded, 24.6% send and receive email three to five times a day using handsets, followed by six to 10 times (19.8%), a couple of times (13.5%), and 11 to 20 times (12.5%). The survey also showed that younger users more frequently use their cellphones to send and receive email than older users.

By occupation, students are heavy users. As many as 18.7% of the student respondents claim that they send or receive more than 31 emails a day.

Of the respondents, 22.4% receive two or three e-zines, followed by four or five (19.2%), six to 10 (18.1%), and more than 21 (14.8%). Male users in their 40s receive more e-zines than the other age groups.
