Infineon Technologies Announces Agreement to Supply Smart Card Chips to MasterCard Financial Institutions.

MUNICH, Germany, NEW ORLEANS, and LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- April 23, 2002

Infineon Technologies (FSE/NYSE:IFX), a leading provider of computer chip technology used in security and smart card applications, today announced it has established a supply agreement with MasterCard International. The agreement affirms Infineon's role as a provider of the secure computer chips that act as the "brain" of smart cards, similar to the microprocessor on a PC, issued by MasterCard's member financial institutions.

The supply agreement simplifies the business relationship between Infineon and MasterCard's members by establishing a cost structure to assure that MasterCard institutions of any size can purchase Infineon chips at volume pricing levels. Infineon has supplied these chips, known as secure microcontrollers, to MasterCard's members since 1997. The company's currently available 66Plus series microcontrollers support the MULTOS(TM) and Java(TM) multiapplication smart card operating systems, and are used in applications that include some of the most advanced security features in the smart card industry.
