Industry stalwarts to be honored for efforts to help community.


American ORT's Engineering & Construction Industry Chapter has announced it will present its annual Community Achievement Awards at its Annual Tribute Luncheon on November 9, 2006 at the Rainbow Room at Rockefeller Center.

The awards will be presented to Thomas Iovino, founder and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of Judlau Contracting Inc; Emily Lloyd, Commissioner, New York City New York City: see New York, city.

"Our three extraordinary honorees, Thomas Iovino, Emily Lloyd and Raymond Pocino, were selected as recipients of American ORT's Community Achievement Award in recognition of their outstanding career achievements and dedicated commitment to improving the quality of life for all New Yorkers," said Chapter President Neal J. "Their personal and professional endeavors reflect the spirit of volunteerism and giving back to their communities."

The American ORT Community Achievement Award recognizes individuals who have substantially improved the quality of life for fellow individuals, creating role models which could be emulated and/or established new directions for society.

A native Long Islander, Thomas Iovino graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, at Troy, N.Y.; coeducational; founded and opened 1824 as Rensselaer School; chartered 1826. It was called Rensselaer Institute from 1837 to 1861.  in 1973 with a BS in Civil Engineering, followed by a Masters in Civil Engineering in 1974.

His first job was at J.D. Posillico, Inc. and, 1977, he moved on to Nanco Construction, Inc., where he rose to general manager and earned his professional engineering license. In 1983, Iovino began his Judlau Contracting, Inc, which today is a $150 million business.

Iovino serves as a weekly volunteer at Huntington Hospital, is an active member of his church and also serves as a vestry member. Since 1993, he has been a member of the Family Service League's Board of Directors, where he served as president. He joined Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's Board of Trustees board of trustees Politics The posse of thugs who oversee an institution's administration. See Board of directors.  in December 2002.

A veteran of City government with extensive experience with environmental issues and large-scale construction and engineering projects, Commissioner Emily Lloyd was appointed by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg to the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP DEP Deposit

Prior to joining DEP, she served as executive vice president for government and community affairs for Columbia University, and before that she was Columbia's executive vice president for administration for ten years.

Her years of public service include stints as Commissioner for Sanitation under Mayor David Dinkins, director of business development at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, self-sustaining public corporation established in 1921 by the states of New York and New Jersey to administer the activities of the New York–New Jersey port area, which has a waterfront of c. , and Commissioner for Traffic and Parking for the City of Boston.

Lloyd is a graduate of Wellesley College. She received a Masters of City Planning from the University of Pennsylvania (body, education) University of Pennsylvania - The home of ENIAC and Machiavelli.

 and was a Loeb Fellow at Harvard University. She has served on numerous boards and commissions and is a lifetime Fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration.

A recognized labor leader, Raymond Pocino was appointed to the Board of Commissioners in June 2002 by then New Jersey Governor James McGreevey.

A 50-year member of the Laborers International Union of North America (LIUNA LIUNA Laborers' International Union of North America ), Pocino was appointed manager of LIUNA's Eastern Region Office in April 1995 and later won election as a LIUNA vice president in September 1996. He was re-elected to a second five-year term as vice president at LIUNA's 22nd International Convention in September 2001. In his dual positions as vice president and eastern regional manager, Pocino directs and oversees activities that affect the working lives of some 40,000 laborers in the New Jersey, Delaware, New York Delaware is a town in Sullivan County, New York, USA. The population was 2,719 at the 2000 census.

Previously, Pocino served four terms as president and business manager of Construction & General Laborers Local 172 in Trenton, NJ and four terms as a commissioner and chairman of the New Jersey Turnpike Authority.
