The program has finally been concluded, but not before ABO disbursed over four million dollars in financial housing assistance to victims. The assistance went to 1,680 New Yorkers, with grants averaging $2,408. The money was intended to provide three months of rent or mortgage assistance, or up to $5,000 per recipient.

Recipients included those who suffered the death of a family member or a loss of employment in a business located south of Canal Street.

The money disbursed by the ABO was part of a larger $9 million dollar fund raised by the National Association of Home Builders The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) is one of the largest trade associations in the United States. . Several dozen faxed, mailed and hand-delivered applications poured in each day, and staff members fielded more than 50 phone calls per day to the 24-hour information line.

In just the first three months of the program, the ABO had allocated $1.48 million to 600 victims. Due to the overwhelming need and the ABO's speedy and fair processing, the NAHB repeatedly sent additional funds, eventually reaching the $4 million dollar total.

The charitable efforts of the ABO were recognized by Sen/ Charles E. Schumer (D-NY). He personally thanked ABO's approval committee and staff members for their efforts.

"The ABO is proud that we were able to assist so many victims during the trying times we have all been through," said Jerome Belson, president of the ABO. "Our staff and approval committee donated their time and effort, and our organization absorbed every penny of the administrative costs, to make sure that applicants received every dollar that was available, as quickly as possible."
