Industry Leading SDR Development Tool Now Available for Real Time Operating System.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. & OTTAWA, Ontario -- The Communications Research Centre Canada (CRC), an agency of Industry Canada, and Green Hills Software, the technology leader in operating systems and software development tools for safe and secure systems, announced today that the latest version of CRC's SCARI++ Software Suite is now available for the INTEGRITY operating system. This marks the first time that the Suite, used to build Software Communications Architecture (SCA)-based software defined radio (SDR) systems, is available for a true embedded system, resulting in enhanced development and deployment capabilities for radio developers.

Previous versions of the SCARI++ Software Suite included a Core Framework based on Linux. However, this new version, which can operate on an INTEGRITY-based platform, will more accurately reflect the way radio developers operate in the real world, using embedded real-time operating systems such as INTEGRITY.

"By providing the SCARI++ Software Suite for a real-time operating system, we have brought SDR closer to the radio developers in a way that is much more applicable to their daily work."

The SCARI Software Suite provides companies with a complete and easy-to-use blueprint for designing and implementing SDR, which will help to ensure interoperability between SDR devices from different manufacturers. It is based on version 2.2 of the Software Communications Architecture (SCA) specifications published by the U.S. Department of Defence Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS).

Israel Aircraft Industries' ELTA Systems Group, which specializes in defense electronics systems, recently selected CRC's INTEGRITY compatible version of the SCARI Software Suite. "CRC's SCARI Software Suite provided us with a complete solution for SCA-based development," said Alexander Broitman, Software Project Manager at ELTA. "The fact that the SCARI Software Suite now allows us to build systems using a true embedded real time operating system is essential and was a critical factor in our selection process."

Montreal-based ISR Technologies was a key client pushing for the development of this new version of the SCARI++ Software Suite. "The development of a version of SCARI++ for the INTEGRITY RTOS was critical for our design," said Naim Batani, CEO of ISR Technologies. "This new set of tools will simplify our development process, allowing us to focus our resources on our own hardware and software design."

The SCARI++ Software Suite is the latest generation of the SCARI product that began with SCARI-OPEN, an open source reference implementation of the SCA developed by CRC for the SDR Forum. Using lessons learned during the development and testing of SCARI-OPEN, SCARI++ was built from the ground up for real time systems. The SCARI-OPEN suite recently received a more than 97 per cent passing score in tests by the Joint Tactical Radio System Technology Laboratory (JTEL), the highest score ever received.
