The online study was designed and conducted by the online division of CMP CMP (cytidine monophosphate): see cytosine.

The results of the survey showed a strong growth opportunity for unified messaging, with 55 percent of the respondents saying they believe unified messaging will especially benefit wireless and mobile workers. A majority of the respondents, 56 percent, said premise-based (on-site) unified messaging was the most likely method of implementing a unified messaging solution in their organization, as opposed to a service-based offering.

The unified messaging features respondents felt were most important are immediate message notification/delivery for urgent email (81 percent) and personal call screening and "find me/connect me" caller option (60 percent).

The AVT CallXpress unified messaging solution allows users to access all message types -- voice, fax, and email -- from virtually any device, including Lotus Notes Messaging and groupware software from IBM Lotus that was introduced in 1989 for OS/2 and later expanded to Windows, Mac, Unix, NetWare, AS/400 and S/390. CallXpress will try up to nine different numbers, including pagers, cell phones, or SMS-enabled devices.

"We are very pleased with the participation in the survey, highlighting the beliefs of today's high-tech executives on unified messaging. The results from this survey show clear opportunities in the unified messaging industry, especially in the mobile worker and wireless markets," said Mary Sommerset, Director of Research, of the online division of CMP Media.
