India: BSNL gives INR849m telecom upgrade contract to ITI.

ITI - a state-run telecommunications equipment maker - will upgrade the software for BSNL's mobile switching centers by the end of February next year, the notice showed.

A mobile switching center is a unit of the wireless telecom equipment and routes mobile phone calls from one telecom tower to another.

 to offer full roaming to its CDMA users across the country. Currently, the company can only offer mobility within a telecom service area.

An ITI official, who didn't want to be named, told Dow Jones Newswires Dow Jones Newswires is the real-time financial news organization owned by Dow Jones. Founded in 1882, its primary competitors are Bloomberg L.P. and Reuters. The company reports more than 420,000 subscribers -- including brokers, traders, analysts and fund managers -- as of July  that ITI has partnered with the Indian unit of ZTE Corp. - a Chinese telecom equipment supplier - for the BSNL contract.

Officials at the Indian unit of ZTE Corp. couldn't be immediately reached for comments.
