Independent Buyers Laboratory Tests Show Xerox Office Multifunction Systems Surpass HP, Others in Print Speed, Efficiency; Phaser printers receive 'Certificates of Reliability'.Business Editors/High-Tech Writers ROCHESTER, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 4, 2004 An independent battery of Buyers Laboratory Inc Buyers Laboratory Inc is a company which provides information on the imaging industry. It was founded in 1961 by the late Arthur Kallet, the co-founder and 20-year head of Consumers Union, the publisher of Consumer Reports magazine (BLI is not affiliated with Consumers Union). . (BLI BLI Buyers Laboratory Inc BLI BirdLife International BLI Budget Line Item BLI Blue Ling BLI Busy Lamp Indicator (VoIP) BLI Bellingham, WA, USA - Bellingham International (Airport Code) ) print productivity tests show that Xerox Corporation's (NYSE NYSE See: New York Stock Exchange : XRX XRX Xerox Corporation (stock symbol) ) WorkCentre(R) Pro office multifunction systems are two to four times faster and more efficient than competitive models from Hewlett-Packard, Canon, Ricoh, Konica and others. "Throughout the print productivity testing* we conducted, the data clearly showed that the Xerox WorkCentre Pro systems evaluated provide significant print efficiency advantages over the competition when processing the BLI print productivity job suite," noted Rich Holloway, BLI's director of technical operations. BLI, a leading independent testing organization that evaluates office products, determines productivity by measuring speed and efficiency -- key factors that help establish the value of a multifunction system. BLI compared Xerox WorkCentre Pro systems operating at speeds of 65, 55 and 40 pages per minute against the closest comparable competitive models. To measure print speed, 15 common office printing jobs - such as e-mail with attachments, PDFs, Word text documents and presentations, all with banner pages (1) An identification page printed at the beginning of a print job by many print spoolers. It serves as a title page and separator between print jobs. (2) A home page on a Web site that serves as an identification screen and launching pad to products, services, etc. - were randomly sent to the devices. Start-to-finish printing time was clocked to the second. To evaluate efficiency, BLI compared the actual results of the speed test to the manufacturers' published device speed. Xerox's WorkCentre Pro line, designed for high- and mid-volume printing and copying, is engineered to perform all steps of the imaging process at once - receiving, processing and printing/copying while faxing and scanning. A person who walks up to make a quick copy does not have to wait for a printing, faxing or scanning job to conclude before running a job. Specific BLI print speed and efficiency results for the WorkCentre Pro systems follow: -- Printing at 65 ppm in black-and-white, the WorkCentre Pro 65 tested more than two times faster than the HP LaserJet LaserJet is the brand name used by the American computer company Hewlett-Packard (HP) for their line of dry electrophotographic (DEP) laser printers. Technology HP LaserJets employ electro-photographic laser marking engines sourced from the Japanese company Canon. 9065 and Canon imageRUNNER 6020, nearly three times faster than the Ricoh Aficio 700 and 1075, and more than four times faster than the Konica 7075. The Xerox WorkCentre Pro 65 proved to be the most efficient at 71 percent, nearly two to five times better than competitive machines, which ranged from 13 to 37 percent efficient. -- The WorkCentre Pro 55, which prints at 55 ppm in black-and-white, tested at 70 percent efficiency - up to twice as efficient as competitive models. It is more than 1.5 times faster than the HP 9000, and nearly two times faster than the HP LaserJet 9065 and Canon imageRUNNER 5000N/5000i. -- The WorkCentre Pro 40 Color tested 1.6 times faster than the Canon Color imageRUNNER C3200. Printing at 40 ppm in black-and-white and 22 ppm in color, the Xerox WorkCentre Pro 40 was 49 percent efficient versus Canon's 21 percent efficiency. These independent tests verify what our customers around the world already know: Xerox office multifunction systems and services are the best in the industry. They're reliable, technologically superior offerings that outperform Outperform An analyst recommendation meaning a stock is expected to do slightly better than the market return. Fullwood, president, Xerox Channels Group. "These findings will be useful to businesses considering multifunction systems and will take the guesswork out of evaluating what's best for their offices." BLI also recently granted "Certificates of Reliability" to three Xerox office printers: the Xerox Phaser Xerox Phaser is the brand name for a line of color and black and white printers produced and sold by Xerox. Some Phaser printers use Xerox Solid Ink technology. Phaser printers were originally manufactured and marketed by Tektronix in Wilsonville, Oregon. (R) 7300 color printer A printer that prints in color using three (CMY) or four (CMYK) colors of ink, toner or dye. Four color ribbons have been used in dot matrix printers, but these are rare today. See color laser printer and printer. , Phaser(R) 6250 color laser printer A laser printer that prints in color using four toner cartridges (CMYK) of cyan, magenta, yellow and black. The colors are applied one at a time to the drum and are then adhered to the paper. See printer. and Phaser(TM) 3450 monochrome laser printer. Certificates are given to products that successfully complete the lab's extensive, in-house durability tests. In the color laser market, the Phaser 7300 was praised for its "excellent color output" and ability to produce a wide color gamut The entire range of colors available on a particular device such as a monitor or printer. A monitor, which displays RGB signals, typically has a greater color gamut than a printer, which uses CMYK inks. including realistic flesh tones, while the Phaser 6250 was commended for its fast first-page-out time and ease of use. In the monochrome laser printing category, the Phaser 3450 is described as a "good overall performer" that required no service during its 100,000 impression test period. For monochrome MFPs, multiple jobs from a BLI test suite were sent in series to each device, with output consisting of both single and multiple stapled sets with a banner page for each job in the test suite. For color MFPs, multiple jobs from a BLI test suite were sent in series to each device with output consisting of a mix of color not of the white race; - commonly meaning, esp. in the United States, of negro blood, pure or mixed.
