Ind. crash kills 3, leaves money on road

Three vehicles, including an armored truck, crashed Wednesday near the Indianapolis International Airport, killing three people and scattered money across Interstate 70, state police said.

The westbound armored truck crossed the median and collided with a pickup truck and sport utility vehicle in the eastbound lanes, State Police 1st Sgt. Dave Bursten said.

The pickup burst into flames, and coins and paper currency from the United Armored Services truck were thrown across the highway.

Two people in the armored truck and the pickup truck driver were killed. A man, woman and two children in an SUV that was also hit were not seriously hurt, Bursten said.

Representatives of United Armored Services recovered the money, Bursten said. United Armored Services is a privately held company headquartered in Broadview, Ill., a suburb of Chicago.

Police identified the victims in the armored truck as driver James N. Hogue, 61 of Franklin, and passenger Donald Tipton, 64, of Indianapolis. A coroner was attempting to identify the pickup driver from dental records, Bursten said.
