When the two were virtually face-to-face, Redmond, who had by then armed himself with a .38-caliber handgun, fired two shots. During an interview the next day with the Sanford, (N.C.) Herald, Redmond recalled: "I realized the guy was out of control. He raised his hand, he was much bigger than me -- he stepped toward me. I shot him. He pushed the storm door open and he died outside." Redmond called 911 again to report the shooting. On February 21st, following a lengthy investigation, the assistant district attorney announced that no charges would be filed against Redmond. |
