El Segundo-based semiconductor maker International Rectifier International Rectifier Corp. (NYSE: IRF) is a manufacturer of power semiconductors (MOSFET, IGBT, diodes and thyristors), located in El Segundo, California, USA. It has a market capitalization of 2.48 billion USD and is listed on the S&P Midcap 400.  Corp. is among the companies stepping up production after sales of DVD players A stand-alone device that plays DVDs. It contains a DVD drive and the electronics to decode the digital video. The device may play only manufactured DVDs, or it may be able to play DVD-R, DVD-RW and DVD+RW discs. . Apple Computer Inc., based in Cupertino, said it could have sold more iPod music players during the holiday season if it had been able to produce enough.

El Segundo-based International Rectifier's distributors are having a tough time keeping enough of its semiconductors on hand as demand for clothes-washers, plasma televisions and refrigerators rises. International Rectifier's chips are mainly used to manage power levels within electronic devices.

"Inventories have been real thin," Chief Executive Alex Lidow said. "We're barely able to keep up with end use."

For the second quarter ended Dec. 31, International Rectifier reported net income of $16.9 million, compared with a loss of $121.3 million for the like period a year earlier. Revenue rose 20.4 percent, to $252.3 million, and Lidow said industrial orders rose 40 percent.

Over the past year, International Rectifier has seen its stock more than double, to $50.30 on Feb. 11.
