In memoriam.Doan Helms Jr., 85, passed away following a bout with cancer in Attica Attica (ăt`ĭkə), region of ancient Greece, a triangular area at the eastern end of central Greece, around Athens. According to Greek legend, the four Attic tribes were founded by Ion; in later legend Theseus combined 12 townships into a single state., IN. Mr. Helms was director of corporate communications for International Harvester and worked out its corporate headquarters in Chicago, IL. He was raised on a farm near Attica and served in the Marines in the Pacific Theatre during WWII WWII - World War II WWII - World Wide Allotment Area II. After his discharge, he earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from Indiana University. During the early 1950s, he worked as a copywriter for the Indiana Farm Bureau. He moved to Chicago and worked for several advertising agencies, including Foote Cone & Belding. In 1963 he moved to the San Francisco, CA, area where he started his own advertising agency. He moved back to the Midwest where he joined IH. He was very active in getting NAMA established. |
