In memoriam: Jim Guilinger.This past May, ACTE ACTE Association for Career and Technical Education (formerly American Vocational Association) ACTE Association of Corporate Travel Executives ACTE Approvals Committee for Terminal Equipment ACTE Anodal Closure Tetanus lost Jim Guilinger, a life member who was the president of our association in 1986-1987. He also served a three-year term as secretary of ACTE's Agricultural Education Agricultural education is instruction about crop production, livestock management, soil and water conservation, and various other aspects of agriculture. Agricultural education includes instruction in food education, such as nutrition. Division and a three-year term as vice president of the Agricultural Education Division. Guilinger was honored with a number of ACrE awards over the course of his highly distinguished career. They include 1981 Region IV ACTE Teacher of the Year, 1981 ACTE Teacher of the Year, ACTE Ship's Citation Citation (foaled 1945) U.S. Thoroughbred racehorse. In four seasons he won 32 of 45 races, finished second in ten, and third in two. He won the 1948 Triple Crown, and became the first horse to win $1 million. He set a world record in 1950 by running a mile in 1:33 3/5. , 1987, ACTE Meritorious mer·i·to·ri·ous adj. Deserving reward or praise; having merit. In addition to his life membership in ACTE, Guilinger also held life memberships in the Illinois Association of Vocational Agriculture Teachers (IAVAT), the National Association of Agricultural Educators (NAAE NAAE National Association of Agriculture Educators NAAE National Affiliation of Arts Educators Inc NAAE Nigerian Association of Agricultural Education ), the Illinois Association of Community College Agriculture Instructors (IACCAI), the Illinois Association for Career and Technical Education (IACTE), the National Education Association, the National FFA FFA free fatty acids. Alumni Association An alumni association is an association of graduates (alumni) or, more broadly, of former students. In the United Kingdom and the United States, alumni of universities, colleges, schools (especially independent schools), fraternities, and sororities often form groups with alumni and the National Young Farmers Institute. He served as section chair, district director, vice president and president of IAVAT and as national president of NAAE. He was elected as the first secretary of the Illinois FFA Alumni Association and served three terms as its president. In 1989, he served as member-at-large representative and vice president of the National FFA Alumni Association. Among Guilinger's other awards are the Illinois and National FFA Alumni Outstanding Achievement Award and the IACTE Citation for Meritorious Service. And as an FFA chapter advisor, he saw his students earn literally hundreds of awards. Jim Guilinger dedicated his life to agriculture education. He is survived by his wife Carol, who was his high school sweetheart. He married Carol during his senior year in college and credited her lifetime of unlimited support as a vital contribution to his success as an agriculture teacher. |
