In memoriam: Janet Perry.Janet A. Perry, an owner of baler and compactor manufacturer Cram (Card Random Access Memory) A magnetic card mass storage device from NCR that was made available on its 315 computer systems in 1962. It offered reliable random access storage at a time when magnetic tapes were the primary storage medium. Up to 16 CRAM units could be online. Each CRAM unit held one 5.5MB cartridge that contained 256 mylar, 3x14" cards with a magnetic recording surface.-A-Lot/J.V. Manufacturing, Springdale, Ark., passed away in July after a long battle against cancer. Perry was involved in the advertising, media relations and trade show aspects of J.V. Manufacturing. She helped J.V. Manufacturing, which began as a small family business, grow into a company with some 200 employees. She was active in the Arkansas Press Women organization, serving as president of the group and at times representing it at National Federation of Press Women events. |
