Monroe is the author of the reissued The Upper Room (Dafina Books/Kensington Publishing, 2002) and other novels. Readers will find the author true to her previous efforts. The thin characterization, almost stereotypical portrayal of the surrounding cast, and the forced and predictable ending, make this a less stellar effort than her other works. What is most satisfying about this book is its astute as·tute adj. Having or showing shrewdness and discernment, especially with respect to one's own concerns. See Synonyms at shrewd.
