In Praise of Oxen.

For as long as I've been associated with Countryside, readers have been asking for a book about oxen: how to raise them, how to train them, how to work them. If such a book was ever written, I couldn't find it.

Still haven't.

But if you're interested in looking at beautiful pictures (and reading a bit) about working cattle, this book is for you.

Terry James is an excellent photographer, not only in technique, but in his feeling for his subject. That's enhanced by the designer, and the Hong Kong printers.

If you love cattle, you'll find this book interesting. If you love oxen - or the old way of life they represent - you'll find it marvelous. If you love oxen and photography, buy it. This might be the only coffee table book on draft bovines ever published.
