In Memory. (News & Trends).

CalCPA's 1979 Distinguished Service Award winner Robert A. Mellin, 82, passed away Oct. 9, 2001.

Mellin joined San Francisco-based Hood & Strong in 1946 and became a partner in 1954. He served as managing partner of the firm from 1968-81 and later as a consultant to the firm.

Mellin served for eight years on the California Board of Accountancy--three years as president. He was a CalCPA vice president and a member of the executive committee, as well as a member of the AICPA council, board of directors and chairman of the special investigations committee. Additionally, he was trustee of the Financial Accounting Foundation and a FASB advisory council member. He received the AICPA's Gold Medal for Distinguished Service in 1987.

"Bob was an extraordinary individual," says Ken Wunderling, partner in Hood & Strong's Menlo Park office. "He was a natural leader who always behaved with the utmost integrity and professionalism. He will be greatly missed."

A scholarship fund in Mellin's name has been established at the University of San Francisco School of Business. The fund is now accepting donations that will benefit deserving accounting students.
