In Memoriam. The American Society of Military Comptrollers notes with extreme sadness the death of Professor James C. Stephens. From 1953 until his death he was professorial lecturer in Business Administration at the George Washington University. In conjunction with many other academic positions he was a teacher at the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. Professor Stephens was a frequent contributor to the Armed Forces Comptroller. His early articles such as "What is an Organization" and "Aristotle and Contemporary Management Thought vs the Management System in the Orient" served to establish AFC as a visionary management journal. His landmark textbook, "Management of Complexity" was recently reprinted and serves as one of the benchmark publications in the field. At the time of his death, Professor Stephens was developing a reprise of several of his earlier works to demonstrate the timeless quality of his analysis. He will be greatly missed. The Editor |
