In BCS poll, they're sitting Ducks.

Oregon went to work Monday - or at least the Ducks who were able to practice did - behind closed gates at Autzen Stadium The stadium is tucked between the Willamette River and Coburg Hills. The uniquely shaped bowl blends in with the wooded Eugene landscape. The shape also allows for unique acoustics, making it one of the loudest stadiums in NCAA Football for its capacity. , saying their attention is on Oregon State and not the latest Bowl Championship Series rankings that came out earlier in the day.

`We've got to take care of this game before we get too far down that road,' UO senior defensive end Devan Long said of the ratings that could determine the bowl destination for the Ducks.

The Ducks are correct in saying they won't have to worry about the BCS (1) (The British Computer Society, Swindon, Wiltshire, England, www.bcs.org) The chartered body for information technology professionals in the U.K., founded in 1957.  if they don't beat Oregon State on Saturday in the 109th Civil War, and little changed in the latest BCS ranking anyway.

Oregon is 10th in the BCS poll, as the Ducks were last week. To be chosen as an at-large team to play in a BCS game such as the Fiesta Bowl The Fiesta Bowl, now sponsored by Tostitos tortilla chips (a Frito-Lay product), is a United States college football game played annually since 1971. Originally, the game was hosted in Tempe, Arizona at Sun Devil Stadium where it remained until 2006. , Oregon will have to be ranked in the top 12 of the final BCS ratings on Dec. 4. The Ducks (9-1) already have the required nine wins.

Though he said he hadn't yet seen the BCS list as of Monday afternoon, UO coach Mike Bellotti Robert Michael Bellotti (b. December 21, 1950 in Sacramento, California) has been the head coach of the University of Oregon football team since 1995. His accomplishments at Oregon include an 11-1 season and #2 national ranking in 2001. Education
M.S.
acknowledged that it was `surprising' to him when told of his team's placement.

`I would have thought we would have moved up one' from last week, he said.

There was an opening to improve because Georgia did fall out of the top 10 after a defeat, but Notre Dame Notre Dame IPA: [nɔtʁ dam] is French for Our Lady, referring to the Virgin Mary. In the United States of America, Notre Dame  jumped over the Ducks from 11th a week ago to ninth on Monday.

The margin is two-thousandths of a point. Oregon's overall total is .6803 while Notre Dame is .6805 and No. 8 Alabama is .6893, based on a score of 1.000 being the maximum. USC An abbreviation for U.S. Code.  again leads the BCS rankings (at .9829) with Texas second, setting them up as the likely pairing in the Jan. 4 Rose Bowl for the national championship.

After the Longhorns, the BCS lists Miami, Penn State, LSU LSU Louisiana State University
LSU Large Subunit
LSU La Salle University (Philadelphia, PA)
LSU La Sierra University
LSU Link State Update (OSPF)
LSU Learning Support Unit
, Virginia Tech, Ohio State and then Alabama, which suffered its first defeat last weekend, before the Irish and the Ducks round out the top 10.

Notre Dame's climb of two places in the overall BCS poll was largely based on the computer average of the Irish improving from 18th the previous week to 13th this week. Obviously, the computers were very impressed with that 42nd consecutive win over Navy.

In the human polls, Notre Dame is sixth in the Harris voting and seventh in the USA Today USA Today

voting by coaches. The Ducks are 10th in both of those polls.

`It's all politics,' Long said. `I'm a political science major so I know how that goes.'

Oregon did gain slightly with the computers after the losses by the two SEC teams, with an average rank of seventh this week after being eighth in the computers the previous week. Oregon's best computer ranking was fifth, with another sixth, three putting the Ducks seventh and the other 10th. The BCS throws out the highest and lowest ranking and averages the other four computers.

The computer average then provides one-third of the BCS point total, with the Harris and USA Today each adding another one-third. The four BCS bowls - Rose, Fiesta, Orange and Sugar - make their pairings from the champions of six leagues - Pac-10, Big Ten, Big 12, SEC, ACC See adaptive cruise control.  and Big East - along with two at-large selections.

Based on current standings or national rankings, the six automatic BCS berths would go to USC, Texas, Miami, Penn State, LSU and West Virginia West Virginia, E central state of the United States. It is bordered by Pennsylvania and Maryland (N), Virginia (E and S), and Kentucky and, across the Ohio R., Ohio (W). Facts and Figures

. The possible at-large teams, based on Monday's poll, are Virginia Tech, Ohio State, Alabama, Notre Dame, the Ducks and UCLA UCLA University of California at Los Angeles
UCLA University Center for Learning Assistance (Illinois State University)
UCLA University of Carrollton, TX and Lower Addison, TX
, the latter 11th in the latest BCS ranking.

Bellotti joked about how he `called all my friends' to lobby for his team - who might that have been a shot at? - but turned serious and said `there's not much we can do. The most important thing to do is take care of business this week and let the chips fall where they may, and as I said, put the pressure on other people to make the right decision.'

Oregon would argue that it has lost only to No. 1 USC, and beaten three teams that were ranked in the top 25 at the time of the game in Fresno State, Arizona State and California.

The Irish (7-2) and No. 7 Ohio State (8-2) are the only two-loss teams ranked ahead of Oregon. Both must win out to gain a ninth victory and be eligible for a BCS game, with Notre Dame finishing its season against Syracuse (1-8) on Saturday and Stanford (5-4) on Nov. 26 and the Buckeyes closing at Michigan on Saturday. Both teams are widely viewed as more likely at-large selections than Oregon by the Fiesta Bowl, with neither the Orange nor Sugar at all interested in the Ducks.

Oregon would also be helped if Alabama lost to Auburn or Virginia Tech fell to Virginia on Saturday, but who can keep track of all that when there's game planning for the Beavers to be done?

`I don't even know what our ranking is right now,' UO center Enoka Lucas Enoka Lucas (born April 29, 1984 in Honolulu, Hawaii) is an American football guard and center who is currently a free agent. The big thing on my mind is Oregon State.

`I don't even care what bowl game we go to, as long as we go to one.'
