What would the world be like if the South had won the Civil War?

Players of ``Civil War Generals 2,'' a leading strategy war game from Impressions Software, can become the ultimate Civil War general and perhaps change the history of our nation as we know it today.

On Jan. 5, 1998, Impressions Software is kicking off a ``Civil War Generals 2'' contest that recreates five modified battles of the Civil War on the Internet. Players can put their leadership and strategic-thinking skills to the test as they compete for prizes as either a Union or Confederate general.

The virtual Civil War will take place for three weeks at WON.Net, the new multiplayer Internet gaming site from Sierra On-Line.

For both Civil War buffs and gamers, the re-enactment offers the chance to rewrite the past and possibly bring ultimate victory to Dixie. Registration for the ``Civil War Generals 2'' on-line contest begins Dec. 1, at 4 p.m. PST PST Paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia, see there  on GameSpot (www.gamespot.com/promos/civilwar) and runs until Dec. 31.

The first 500 Union and Confederates to enlist on GameSpot will make up the participants of the war's first round. Those who maneuver successfully through three rounds of combat and obtain maximum ``victory points'' will advance to the semi-finals until only one pair of Union and rebel adversaries remain. The final round will determine the North or South victor and Grand Prize winners.

Prizes will be awarded at every level of the on-line contest, which runs through Jan. 26, 1998. Players compete for everything from T-shirts featuring the art of renowned historical artist Mort Kunstler to a Grand Prize trip to a Civil War re-enactment Civil War re-enactment may refer to:
