impression materials. Clinical data from recent comparative studies released by the manufacturer reveals a significant difference in the hydrophilic hydrophilic /hy·dro·phil·ic/ (-fil´ik) readily absorbing moisture; hygroscopic; having strongly polar groups that readily interact with water.

stage of the working process. Even in the presence of moisture or saliva, the hydrophilic nature of Impregum polyether impression materials ensures that the impression is unaffected and maintains its precision. The studies were designed with an important difference from previous experiments: While existing data suggests many VPS impression materials show an adequate degree of hydrophilicity, past studies were conducted using set impression materials. Because the precision of an impression material depends on its wetting behavior before and during setting, the new experiments examined both polyether and VPS impression materials both before and throughout the complete setting process. Through observing contact angles of water drops on polyether and VPS impression materials, results demonstrate the lower contact angles and thus, the hydrophilicity of Impgreum polyether impression materials.
