and electronic government are all dependent on the seamless flow of information. Some call this "information interoperability," but most just see sharing information as the best way to leverage investments in information technology.

Yet, while the current administration has increased emphasis on integrated enterprise systems, government agencies and the military services often remain locked into their stovepipe legacy systems. Many of these systems remain inadequate to support a robustly networked, collaborative environment, thus hindering information sharing See data conferencing.  through network centric operations.

The mission of the Association for Enterprise Integration (AFEI AFEI Association For Enterprise Integration ) is to help improve this situation through industry action and collaboration on key issues that enable net centric operations.

The strength of America's information infrastructure must be leveraged to support and accelerate the transformation of government to a network-enabled capability.

Policies and programs that make better use of secure, accurate and timely information can ensure that current transformation initiatives result in more effective and efficient collaboration and network centric operations. Innovation and experimentation with industry can accelerate these initiatives and reveal new and better applications of technology.

To identify areas for future action, AFEI is hosting a conference on April 15-17 at the Sheraton Premiere Hotel in Vienna, Va. For further information, log on: http:www.afei.org/brochure/3af3, or call Betsy Lauer at (703) 247 9473.
