Imperial Sugar Company Receives State Tax Incentive To Expand Operations In Gramercy, Louisiana.

SUGAR LAND, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 28, 2003

Imperial Sugar Company (Nasdaq:IPSU IPSU Indigenous Professional Support Unit (Australia) ) announced today that it will receive an incentive from the State of Louisiana CODE, OF LOUISIANA. In 1822, Peter Derbigny, Edward Livingston, and Moreau Lislet, were selected by the legislature to revise and amend the civil code, and to add to it such laws still in force as were not included therein.  under an existing Industry Assistance Program. The program calls for relief from state sales and use taxes Sales and use tax refers to:

Mr. Peiser and Louisiana Governor M.J. "Mike" Foster, Jr. announced the incentive at a press conference in Baton Rouge Baton Rouge (băt`ən rzh) [Fr.,=red stick], city (1990 pop. 219,531), state capital and seat of East Baton Rouge parish, SE La.  on Wednesday, Aug. 27. Governor Foster noted the importance of Imperial Sugar to the Gramercy area at the press conference, while Mr. Peiser outlined the Company's plans for investing in its operations in Gramercy.

"Imperial has been working with Louisiana Economic Development to facilitate the relocation of its packaging equipment to the Gramercy facility," said Peiser. "This initiative is a significant step toward increasing Imperial's profitability and financial strength. We appreciate the efforts of Governor Foster, Secretary Hutchinson, Kelsey Short of Louisiana Economic Development and everyone else involved in this effort as well as the generosity of the State of Louisiana."

The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area. ," said Governor Foster. "Imperial Sugar has chosen to remain in Louisiana and add to its Gramercy payroll. This is an example of our aggressiveness in retaining and growing our existing industry base."

The Gramercy refinery opened in 1895 and is one of the largest employers in Gramercy as well as within St. James Parish.
