Impact of September 11. (Readers Write).

I have been greatly affected by this tragedy as an American and a Muslim. Suddenly having to feel fearful not just as an American, but as an American of Arab descent. Suddenly not at ease to speak Arabic in public or cover my hair as I walk down the street.

And yet, I have been so moved by the enormous outreach Outreach is an effort by an organization or group to connect its ideas or practices to the efforts of other organizations, groups, specific audiences or the general public.  from many Americans to learn about Islam and Muslims. Before September 11, I conducted some training on Islam, Muslims, and Arab culture. Now, that is all I do. The first call I received was from the Department of Justice requesting training on how to be sensitive and protect Arab Americans This is a list of famous Arab Americans. Academics

and American Muslims. I haven't stopped responding to the requests from schools, churches, temples, offices, and government agencies for training. Living with MS, I am concerned how this emotional and physical stress might impact my ability to walk and move. I am grateful to say that this mission to "open hearts and open minds" keeps me going in spite of my MS.

My legs may be slower, but my heart and mind are racing to break down stereotypes and build understanding.

September 11 victimized and defamed humanity and all Americans, including Muslims, just as MS affects all people regardless of race, ethnicity ethnicity Vox populi Racial status–ie, African American, Asian, Caucasian, Hispanic , culture, and religion.

With my hand to my heart, I wish you all Salaam sa·laam
