The Department of Veterans' Affairs is preparing to unveil a new Web site application developed by Impact Innovations Group that allows veterans to file for benefits online.

The new application, called VONAPP VONAPP Veterans Online Application  -- an acronym for Veterans On Line Applications system -- will allow U.S. military veterans and service personnel to apply for compensation, pension or vocational rehabilitation Noun 1. vocational rehabilitation - providing training in a specific trade with the aim of gaining employment

Impact Innovations built the Web site application for the Department of Veterans Affairs' Veterans Benefits Administration, a federal agency that distributes more than $22 billion a year in veteran's claims.

Impact Innovations designed and developed VONAPP, located at http://vabenefits.vba.va.gov, to be a two-tiered Web site application that automates the claims process while managing data securely.

VONAPP instantly initiates the claims process, forwarding all applications directly to local VA offices based on their zip codes. Applicants are contacted once local offices receive a claim.

"From the beginning, `ease of use' for the veteran was a primary concern of the VA. VONAPP increases veterans' access to the programs and professionals within VBA," said Vin Seibert, senior vice president of government business solutions at Impact Innovations.

"VONAPP is only one example of how Impact Innovations is partnering with the Department of Veterans Affairs Veterans Affairs is a term of the business that deals with the relation between a government and its veteran communities, usually administered by the designated government agency. ," Seibert said.

The Veterans Benefits Administration plans on featuring more benefits forms on VONAPP in the future, including the addition of an education application form that should be available later this month.

While completing the benefits forms on the VBA Website, VONAPP guides users through the process and provides help topics. In some instances, the site edits entries for typing errors.

"VONAPP is built with the latest Microsoft tools, and will remain flexible and expandable to ensure continued value to veterans and to the Department," Seibert said.

Among the software Impact Innovations used were ActiveX Data Objects (database, Microsoft, programming) ActiveX Data Objects - (ADO) Microsoft's library for accessing data sources through OLE DB. Typically it is used to query or modify data stored in a relational database.
