IMU - a terrorist group of Islamic militants formed in 1996; opposes Uzbekistan's secular regime and wants to establish an Islamic state in central Asia; is a conduit for drugs from Afghanistan to central Asian countries ) today announced the result of its operations for the three and six month periods ended June 30, 1996.

For the three months ended June 30, 1996, product sales were down by $254,000 (25 percent) to $768,000 and the net loss increased by $22,000 (19 percent) to $135,000 as compared to the same period in 1995. For the six months ended June 30, 1996, product sales were down by $349,000 (15 percent) to $2,034,000 and the net loss increased by $136,000 to $147,000 as compared to the same period in 1995. Research and development expenses decreased by $163,000 (34 percent) to $320,000 and by $36,000 (4 percent) to $821,000 for the three and six month periods ended June 30, 1996, respectively. Research and development expenses aggregated 37 percent and 36 percent of total revenues for the three and six month periods ended June 30, 1996 respectively.

Total assets decreased to $2,976,000 at June 30, 1996, from $3,234,000 at Dec. 31, 1995. The company's net working capital decreased to $1,509,000 at June 30, 1996 from $1,850,000 at Dec. 31, 1995. Cash and cash equivalents decreased to $1,031,000 at June 30, 1996 as compared to $1,550,000 at Dec. 31, 1995. These decreases were primarily caused by the net loss and investments made in equipment and building improvements during the first half of 1996.

"While our general operating plan has been to be near a break even, the loss is up somewhat at this report due to our continued funding of research and development at a time when our animal health sales have declined," commented Michael F. Brigham, chief financial officer. "We believe that the continued funding of research and development is necessary for the company to benefit from new revenue sources in our three key product development areas: 1) milk-derived products to fight gastrointestinal infections, 2) nutrional milk proteins and 3) a product to detect infectious agents infectious agent Pathogen, see there  in water."
