Imation Corp. (NYSE:IMN), a worldwide leader in data storage and information management, today announced it will feature its full line of data storage solutions during COMDEX Fall 2001, at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Nov. 12-16, 2001, in meeting room LC103. The show marks the addition of several new network and optical media products to Imation's expanding line of personal storage solutions, network and data center format tape cartridges, and portfolio of professional storage consulting services.

Imation Adds Several New Network Storage Solutions

Imation's expanding line of network and data center format tape cartridges and services includes Imation Travan(TM) tape cartridges, SLR(TM) tape cartridges, Black Watch(TM) Ultrium(TM), Black Watch(TM) Digital Linear Tape, 3590E, 9840, and 9940 cartridges.

Today Imation and Seagate announced plans to introduce a new family of Seagate Hornet 40GB tape drives and Imation Travan 40GB tape cartridges based on the seventh generation of Travan technology. The Hornet 40GB tape drives and Travan 40GB cartridges offer up to 20GB native storage capacity (40GB compressed) while maintaining backward compatibility with Travan 20GB cartridges. With more than 10 million drives shipped worldwide since its launch in 1995, Travan technology offers small to medium businesses a reliable, cost-effective tape backup and storage solution. A product availability announcement will be made in early 2002.

The recently launched Imation Black Watch Digital Linear Tape IV cartridges are Imation-certified, and feature 40GB/80GB capacity (2:1 compression) and up to 6MB transfer rate. Imation Black Watch Digital Linear Tape IV features lower abrasivity than comparable DLTtape cartridge brands, resulting in less wear on tape drive heads, which protects drive investments.

Imation also will feature its SLR7 40GB (compressed) tape cartridges, compatible with Tandberg's SLR7 drives. SLR7 is designed for the entry-level server and provides a complete, data backup, file transfer and archiving solution for IT systems and network environments demanding high performance tape storage at an affordable price.

Imation Expands Personal Storage Solutions with New Media, Drives

and Devices

The most recent addition to Imation's expanding line of digital devices, the Imation RipGO! mini CD-R burner and digital audio player, is the smallest device available today for both recording compressed music on CDs and high-performance playback of digital music in MP3 and Microsoft(R) Windows Media(TM) (WMA) formats. Providing full support for the new Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP operating system and WMA, Imation's RipGO! delivers an all-in-one experience for creating, capturing, and playing digital music on computers and portable music players. Plus, its sleek, battery-powered USB CD-R drive uses mini (80mm) CD-R discs to store and play up to 185MB of digital information -- enough capacity for six hours of CD-quality music with WMA or three hours playback with MP3.

Several new optical media products from Imation offer users faster write speeds and smaller formats. The new Imation 32X CD-R media features the fastest write speeds available. These write-once discs, available in silver and neon colors, offer an increased storage capacity of 700MB of data or up to 80 minutes for audio files - ideal for digital audio mastering, multimedia production, data backup, and image storage.

Imation's new line of small format CD-R media includes mini (80mm) and Business Card CD-R media. The recently launched mini (80mm) CD-R discs can hold up to 185MB of digital information or six hours compressed audio files- ideal for such applications as video, audio, photos, PowerPoint presentations and personal Web sites. Imation's Business Card CD-R discs feature a write speed of up to 16X and can hold up to 50MB of information or 5.5 minutes of audio files. These tiny CDs can provide detailed information about your company, portfolio of products and services, PowerPoint presentations, personnel files and much more. Availability for Business Card CD-R is slated for January 2002.

Imation also is expanding its DVD product line with the launch of 4.7GB DVD+RW media. Based on CD-RW technology, this universally compatible DVD-ReWritable media can easily be rewritten 1,000 times and has an expected archive shelf life of 30 years. DVD+RW discs written on a DVD+RW recorder can be read and played on the vast majority of existing and future DVD-video players and DVD-ROM drives.

Imation's line of high performance CD-RW drives, including the Imation 24x10x40 Internal CD Burner and the Imation USB 8x8x24 External CD Burner, also will be on display. These CD-RW drive kits can be installed to the PC via an IDE/ATAPI interface or USB port, and utilize Burn Proof Technology(TM) -- a technology which prevents Buffer Under Run Error and allows users to multi-task while recording a CD. Additionally, the drive kits are bundled with the popular software suites and include a blank Imation CD-R and CD-RW disc. The drives are ideal for creating custom music or multimedia CDs, storing photos, digital images or Internet downloads, or backing up system applications.
