Imagina Releases Mail Notification Tools for Windows and Macintosh.CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 13, 1998--Notification tool eases bandwidth congestion The condition of a network when there is not enough bandwidth to support the current traffic load. congestion - When the offered load of a data communication path exceeds the capacity. and network traffic for corporate IT managers. Imagina Inc., a developer of innovative Internet applications, released new versions of NotifyMail today. A sophisticated e-mail notification tool, the program is designed to decrease unnecessary network traffic and relieve bandwidth congestion; it consumes these resources only when mail is on the server. Two NotifyMail updates were released, version 1.2 for Windows and 3.1 for Macintosh. Both include support for additional e-mail clients and changes to enhance user productivity. The product resides on a user's desktop; a finger connection to the mail server passively listens for e-mail. When the live server connection receives a cue from the e-mail client that mail has arrived, NotifyMail springs into action and alerts the recipient. Gordon Hesketh, MIS manager for Louisiana Chemical Equipment, said, "NotifyMail decreases our WAN traffic considerably. Some of our mail clients were checking their mail as often as every two minutes. NotifyMail drastically decreased this unnecessary traffic on the network and on the mail server." Most mail notification systems tie up bandwidth by dialing into the server at set intervals whether or not mail is there. Other systems, such as LAN-based ones, are on-line continuously. Another feature of the product enables users to receive mail, even if they have quit their mail client. Hesketh said, "Some users who inadvertently quit their mail client weren't receiving their mail until they restarted their systems. NotifyMail will launch the mail client even if it isn't running at the time. It's really the best thing to happen to e-mail in a long time." In large organizations where e-mail is an important communications tool, NotifyMail helps to maximize network resources and boosts employee productivity. The program offers one-step set-up for most systems.
